I am Ms. Coleman and I will be your child's 6th grade Mathematics/Social Studies teacher for the 2015-2016 school year! I am looking forward to an exciting and wonderful year at Monroe County Middle School with your student. I have high expectations for all students. I believe that every student can achieve these high expectations while making some of their own with the support of the family and teacher.

Our Mathematics class instructional time will focus on these four critical areas:

  • Students use reasoning about multiplication and division to solve ratio and rate problems about quantities.
  • Students use the meaning of fractions, the meanings of multiplication and division, and the relationship between multiplication and division to understand and explain why the procedures for dividing fractions make sense.
  • Students understand the use of variables in mathematical expressions
  • Building on and reinforcing their understanding of number, students begin to develop their ability to think statistically.
